Fox News host Sean Hannity had something up his sleeve.
It foreshadows major changes coming to Fox News.
And Sean Hannity made this bold career move that no one saw coming.
Fox News and Sean Hannity announced a new podcast called “Hang out with Sean Hannity” that will stream on the Fox Nation service beginning March 3.
The show will feature Hannity interviewing a variety of guests from his Florida man cave.
“The twice-weekly podcast will premiere on March 3. On “Hang Out With Sean Hannity,” the longtime Fox News Channel host will engage in “unfiltered conversations” with figures across culture, business, sports, politics, and beyond. The show will be shot from Hannity’s new set in Florida, dubbed the personal “man cave,” Variety reports.
Hannity, this show will be a deep dive interview that allows him to showcase the personalities and biography of his interview subjects as opposed to their political views.
“I’ve always been interested in how people got to where they are. The risks they took, the failures they pushed through, and the lessons that don’t make it on TV. This podcast is a chance to slow down and have those conversations, no scripts, no talking points, just real discussions with people who have something meaningful to say,” Hannity stated.
“Sean Hannity remains one of the most influential voices in media, grounded by the same values and work ethic that defined his early days,” a statement from Porter Berry, president of Fox News Digital and New Media, read. “We’re thrilled to expand our podcast portfolio with one of the most accomplished broadcasters to ever pick up a microphone.”
Fox News appears to be looking for its version of the Joe Rogan Show, a freewheeling, long-form interview show that involves politics, but only in the course of a casual conversation about the interview subject’s life.
And that’s not surprising, as Donald Trump’s podcast tour, specifically his interview with Rogan that racked up 45,000,000 views on YouTube, showed that podcasts are increasingly the dominant form of media for younger Americans.
Fox News isn’t the only cable outlet that sees podcasting as the future business model.
MSNOW – formerly MSNBC – inked a deal with Crooked Media to airhighlights of their podcasts, including the flagship show, Pod Save America.
“Each episode will feature a compilation of clips from Crooked Media shows, which will also include Runaway Country with Alex Wagner (an MS Now contributor), Strict Scrutiny, Pod Save the World, Lovett or Leave It, Hysteria, Assembly Required with Stacey Abrams, Offline with Jon Favreau, and What A Day. Pod Save America hosts Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, Dan Pfeiffer, and Tommy Vietor will tape intros and outros for each episode,” The Hollywood Reporter wrote.
Due to cord-cutting and an aging audience, cable news is a shrinking business.
Both Fox News and MSNOW are shifting to podcasts as a survival strategy.
