Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy is one of the few journalists who actually ask real questions.
President Trump knows this.
And Peter Doocy asked Trump one question that led to this shocking answer.
America is demolishing Iran on the conventional battlefield.
But Iran is now fighting asymmetric warfare.
And their main card is closing the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 percent of the world’s oil flows.
Iran shutting down the Strait sent oil prices skyrocketing to over $100 per barrel.
The American military began bombing the Iranian ships that would lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a task President Trump said was now complete.
That led to Peter Doocy asking Trump if that was the case, why can’t America simply reopen the Strait right now?
“Something else, now that you’ve announced that the U.S. has destroyed all of the mine-laying ships, why can’t the U.S. just immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz?” Doccy added.
Trump replied that it was more complicated than that, as shipping companies didn’t want to put their tankers at risk until the complete threat Iran posed was neutralized.
“Well, we could, but it takes two to tango. We have to get people to take their billion-dollar ship and, you know, drive it up. When Pepe has his big sugar ships coming around, and they cost a billion dollars, I would say. “I think it’s OK now, Pepe, take your ship and drive it through the Strait of Hormuz.” He may say, “Let me wait a little while,” because it takes ship owners and — you know, these ships are very expensive,” Trump began.
Even though Iran can’t lay mines, they can still dispatch suicide fast attack boats or fire rockets from the shoreline.
Trump said these risks were causing shipping companies to refuse to send their tankers through the Strait.
“They can cost up to $2 billion. So they don’t want to take a chance, and I think, “Gee, I think you will be OK, they have to know it. So that they don’t have to — we don’t know if they even set any mines, but the thought that they may have is enough to keep people from saying, ” We don’t need it. Now, we are pounding that area, that coast, as you know, on the left side. We are pounding it, like really pounding it hard,” Trump continued.
Trump then praised the military’s current success and promised Iran faced even more brutal attacks.
“And again, they may have no mines set. We hit every one of their mine-droppers’ third drops; they call it the mine layers. They are pretty sophisticated ships. Every one of them is gone, but it only takes one. So it’s a little unfair. You know, you win a war, but they have no right to be doing what they are doing. But we are hitting them very hard, and today is a big day,” Trump added.
Trump then promised Americans he would soon be able to announce a coalition of nations that would assemble the naval assets necessary to escort oil tankers and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“We are pounding a certain area that has very much to do with the strait. And I think we will get it going very soon. In addition, we do have other nations coming in. You need people to watch and people to see. We have other nations coming in,” Trump concluded.
