Joy Behar loves lecturing America about President Trump’s health on national television.
But when she tried to compare the coverage to Joe Biden’s, the table turned fast.
And what her own co-host said next left Behar with nowhere to hide.
The McConnell Debate That Sparked The Blowup
The whole thing started with a conversation about US Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Behar’s claim followed the co-hosts’ discussion about Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and his return to Congress for a vote this week after several months away due to a fall he had in June. The panel drifted into whether Congress needs term limits.
Behar used the moment to pivot straight into a familiar target. “The media does not cover Trump the way they covered Joe Biden,” Behar said. She said it flatly, like it was settled fact rather than a talking point.
But Sara Haines wasn’t going to let that sit there unchallenged.
Sara Haines Wasn’t Having It
Haines jumped in immediately. Sara Haines fired back that Behar sounds the alarm daily on “The View.” That’s not a small correction. That’s Haines calling out her own co-host for doing the exact thing she just claimed nobody was doing.
Haines went further, drawing a distinction between how Trump talks and what happened with Biden. Haines said there was a contrast for Biden and argued, “Trump has always sounded like this.” “He moves all over to the point where you don’t remember what the original question was,” Haines said of the president.
Read that again. Even a co-host on one of the most reliably anti-Trump shows on television just admitted that Trump’s speaking style hasn’t changed. He talks the way he’s always talked. Meanwhile Biden’s condition was something else entirely, something Haines herself seemed to draw a hard line around.
And that’s the part Behar conveniently skipped over when she tried to frame this as a media fairness issue.
The Cover-Up Behar Conveniently Forgets
Here’s what actually happened with Biden. Biden exited the 2024 presidential contest after a disastrous debate performance against Trump and weeks of pressure from fellow Democrats. That wasn’t a sudden collapse out of nowhere. It was the moment a years-long effort inside the Democrat Party and allied media to manage and conceal his decline finally became impossible to sustain.
Biden himself has continued to deny that anything was ever wrong. During an interview on “The View” in 2025, Biden denied reports that he experienced cognitive decline, saying, “They are wrong, there’s nothing to sustain that, number one.” He didn’t stop there either. “Number two, you know, think of what we left with,” he continued. “We left with a circumstance where we had an insurrection when I started, not since the Civil War.”
That’s Biden’s characterization of January 6, not an established fact, and it’s worth noting he reached for the most inflammatory language available rather than answering the actual question about his own condition. Jill Biden jumped in too. Jill Biden praised her husband for working hard and said, based on the state of things at the time under Trump, “Give me Joe Biden any time,” leading to loud applause from the audience.
An applause line from a friendly studio audience doesn’t erase the documented record. Democrat leaders, senior staff, and allied media spent years insisting Biden was sharp while privately managing a very different reality. The debate meltdown didn’t create that problem. It exposed one that had already been sitting there.
The White House wasn’t shy about firing back at Behar directly either. White House spokesman Davis Ingle told Fox News Digital in a statement, “‘Joyless’ Behar is an extremely unlikable, talentless hack with a poorly rated TV show who clearly suffers from a severe and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome. I lose brain cells every single time I have the displeasure of hearing her speak.”
What Does It Mean?
This isn’t the first time Behar has tried to manufacture a Trump health scare out of thin air while ignoring the Biden situation sitting right behind her. It’s a pattern with her, and it’s a pattern with the media outlets that spent four years treating any question about Biden’s fitness as a right-wing conspiracy theory.
Compare the coverage. Reporters and anchors who now claim they’re worried about Trump’s stamina were the same ones who scrubbed clips, avoided follow-up questions, and ran cover for a president who could barely finish a sentence without wandering off. Haines, to her credit, seemed to recognize the difference in real time, even if she wasn’t willing to say the quiet part all the way out loud.
The bigger issue here isn’t really about who coughs more or who mixes up a name on a Tuesday. It’s about a press corps and a political party that spent years actively concealing a president’s condition from the American people, then acted shocked when voters found out anyway. Excuses about a cold, a bad debate format, or jet lag never held up, and they still don’t.
Behar wants a rewrite where the media’s failure on Biden gets quietly filed away while Trump’s ordinary speaking style becomes the new five-alarm story. That’s not how accountability works. The American people watched the real thing happen in real time, and no amount of daily alarm-sounding on a couch in Manhattan changes what they saw with their own eyes.
Expect more of this going forward. As Trump continues to govern and Democrats look for any opening to change the subject from their own record, watch for more attempts to manufacture a health narrative around him while the actual documented cover-up from the last administration gets treated as old news nobody’s supposed to bring up anymore.
