John Fetterman is turning into a problem child for Chuck Schumer and the Democrats.
The real extent of the crisis the left’s faces is on display.
And John Fetterman’s bad news just hit Chuck Schumer like a gut punch.
Fetterman Causes Heartburn on the Left With Comment About Being a Republican
Democrats entered 2026 thinking they needed to flip four Senate seats to win the majority.
That math is wrong.
The real number may be five.
And it’s because of ongoing rumors that Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is switching parties.
Democrats ostracized Fetterman over his support for Israel, his votes in favor of a Republican government funding bill, and his constant criticism of socialists that Democrats nominated to run for Senate.
A recent Siena/New York Times poll found just 22 percent of Pennsylvania Democrats approved of Fetterman whereas 73 percent of Republicans now viewed him favorably.
CBS News’s Major Garrett put the party-switching question to Fetterman at the Texas Tribune Festival.
“Why not become an independent?” Garrett wondered.
Fetterman’s answer rocketed around social media as a potential Freudian slip.
“Because I’m a lifelong Republican,” Fetterman answered.
“Democrat,” Fetterman quickly corrected himself.
Both Garrett and Fetterman instantly knew this moment was going viral.
“That’s a moment right there!” Garrett exclaimed. “That’s clippable, ladies and gentlemen! Circulate!”
“I guarantee you, that’s gonna break through,” Fetterman admitted. “That’ll get clipped.”
Fetterman’s Offer to Switch Parties
Fetterman raised eyebrows with three moves this summer.
First, Fetterman formed a joint fundraising committee with Pennsylvania Republican Senator Dave McCormick.
Second, Fetterman filmed a video introducing McCormick that played at the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas.
Third, Fetterman reportedly began fundraising off GOP text-messaging lists.
Sean Hannity revealed that President Trump dispatched him to speak with Fetterman and sound him on switching parties.
Hannity said Trump authorized him to pitch Fetterman that if he joined the GOP, then Trump would endorse his re-election campaign and clear the field of any primary challengers.
As it currently stands, Fetterman is unlikely to survive a primary challenge if he remains a Democrat and runs for re-election in 2028.
Fetterman attempted to put the party-switching talk to rest in a Washington Post op-ed where he explained that he was a committed leftist who supported gun control, abortion on demand, and transing kids who would still vote with Democrats all the time even if he switched parties.
“My values have not changed, and I have always turned to those kinds of ideals that defined being a Democrat. I remain strongly pro-choice, pro-weed, pro-LGBT, pro-SNAP, pro-labor and even pro-rib-eye over bio slop.
Plus, I’d be a terrible Republican who still votes overwhelmingly with Democrats,’ Fetterman wrote.
But the talk of Fetterman jumping ship won’t die down.
And that has to make Chuck Schumer nervous.
