Hollywood’s left-wing entertainment machine never stops working.
This time a 77-year-old rock star grabbed a microphone and told Democrats exactly what he wants them to do to the President of the United States.
And what Bruce Springsteen said to Rolling Stone is going to make a lot of people furious.
What Springsteen Actually Said
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Springsteen dropped any pretense of just being a musician who happens to have opinions.
He told the magazine that Democrats should retake the House and, if possible, the Senate, and then use that power for one specific purpose.
“And of course, obviously they want to take back the House and, if God was willing, the Senate, and make the last two years of Trump’s term the most miserable years of his life, if that was possible,” Springsteen said. “And that’s what I’d like to see happen.”
That’s not a casual observation from a guy strumming a guitar. That’s a political directive delivered to a national audience.
He went further, expressing confidence that the public mood is shifting. “I’m feeling optimistic,” Springsteen added. “Trump’s approval rating is at a record low. I think the country is finally sick of this s***.”
The interview was tied to the release of his concert film for the Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour, a tour he has openly described as a vehicle for political messaging as much as music.
When asked about fans who pushed back on the political content, Springsteen was unbothered. “Well, I’m old now and I do what I want to do, which I’ve actually always done my entire life,” he said. “I always made the records I wanted to make and then went out and found the audience for them.”
Translation: the fans who came for “Born in the USA” and got a political rally can find the door.
The Pattern Behind the Performance
This isn’t some new development in Springsteen’s career. He has spent the better part of Trump’s second term turning his concert stages into campaign events for the Democrat Party.
In July, he sat down with PBS NewsHour and tried to dress the whole thing up in philosophical language. When asked how the idea that loving your country means telling the truth about it had guided his work, Springsteen answered, “I believe in critical patriotism.”
But his version of “critical patriotism” looks a lot like calling the President names from a concert stage.
He has called President Trump a “racist” and “treasonous” and has promised to keep agitating as both the 2026 and 2028 elections approach.
Earlier in 2026, Trump responded to Springsteen’s attacks by calling him a “dried up prune” and encouraging his supporters to boycott the singer.
The back-and-forth tells you something about where the culture stands right now. One side is running the country and delivering on a mandate voters gave them in November 2024. The other side is booking concert halls and demanding that Congress make the President’s life miserable.
Springsteen’s concert film, titled Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour (Philadelphia Freedom Cut), is being released in installments on YouTube. The timing, arriving just as the 2026 midterms approach, is not accidental. Springsteen admitted as much, telling Rolling Stone that while the release wasn’t specifically planned around the midterms, if it falls that way, “that’s great.”
What This Really Tells You About the Left’s Game Plan
There’s a reason the left has always leaned heavily on celebrity voices. When the policy arguments stop working, you send in the rock stars.
And the policy arguments have stopped working. President Trump won a landslide in 2024. The America First agenda has been moving through Washington at a pace that has the establishment scrambling. The border is being secured. The economy is being rebuilt. The bureaucracy is being trimmed. None of that plays well for the opposition.
So instead of making a case to voters, Springsteen makes a case to Democrats in Congress. His message isn’t “here’s a better policy vision.” His message is obstruction. Make it miserable. Run out the clock.
That’s what “critical patriotism” actually means in practice — not honest engagement with hard questions, but a coordinated effort to kneecap a presidency that voters chose.
The late-night shows have been running the same play for years and their ratings have collapsed as a result. Audiences got tired of being lectured every night by millionaires who live behind walls while telling everyone else their values are wrong. Springsteen is running the same risk with his concert ticket buyers.
He acknowledged people were “vehement about the content of the show.” That’s a polite way of saying fans paid good money to hear music and got a political rally instead. His response — that he’s old and does what he wants — is honest at least. But it’s also the attitude of a man who has stopped caring whether his audience follows him.
The entertainment industry has been doing this for a long time. Turn every platform into a resistance operation. Use the cultural megaphone to tell ordinary Americans that the president they voted for is a racist and a traitor. And then call it patriotism.
But something has shifted. The voters who sent Trump back to Washington in 2024 did so after four years of exactly this kind of thing. The celebrity pile-ons, the concert stage lectures, the late-night monologues, the PBS specials wrapped in the language of civic virtue. They heard all of it and voted anyway.
Springsteen says he’s optimistic. That’s his right. But the last time the entertainment industry was this unified against a presidential candidate, the candidate won in a landslide.
The 77-year-old rocker promising to keep agitating through 2028 is welcome to do exactly that. The voters who have already made up their minds will be watching something else.
