Barron Trump isn’t often in the news.
Trump’s youngest son avoids the headlines.
But Barron Trump had one chilling phone call with Donald Trump that left him shaken.
Barron Trump Alerts His Father to Charlie Kirk’s Assassination
Charlie Kirk’s assassination was a defining moment in American politics.
Kirk founded Turning Point USA and grew the group into the foundation of the movement among young men toward the Republican Party, culminating in Trump winning nearly half of the male 18-29 vote in 2024.
Kirk mobilized young Americans horrified at the left imposing woke ideology on college campuses, socialism causing generational inflation that pushed the cost of housing out of reach, and opposition to endless wars to create an unprecedented political operation on the right.
President Trump embraced Kirk and treated him like a son.
A pro-transgender leftist named Tyler Robinson allegedly murdered Kirk by shooting him in the neck while Kirk held one of his signature events on the campus of Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.
In Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan’s book about the Trump presidency, “Regime Change,” the reporters describe how Barron Trump was the one who alerted Trump to Kirk’s murder.
“Trump’s youngest son, Barron, had already called to tell his father that Kirk had been shot,” the two wrote. “The nineteen-year-old Barron was a big fan of Kirk’s and he had phoned in a state of distress. He had been worried about an assassin taking another shot at his father.”
A clearly shaken Barron Trump connected Kirk’s execution to the multiple attempts on his father’s life during the 2024 election.
“This is what happens when you go out there,” Haberman and Swam reported Barron telling his father. “This is what happened.”
Trump reportedly tried to reassure Barron, saying “calm down, honey, calm down,” but Haberman and Swam revealed that the President “was clearly unnerved himself.”
Haberman and Swam wrote that when Trump was told that a gunman shot Kirk in the neck he said that is “not good. That’s not good.”
Charlie Kirk’s Relationship with the Trump Family
Kirk’s murder struck the President deeply.
“Man, Charlie,” Trump told aides, according to the book. “He’s such a good guy. He really helped me out in 2024. He got the youth vote.”
Barron Trump and Kirk were close as Barron was one of the millions of young men inspired by Kirk’s activism.
Kirk’s murder hit Barron Trump, like it did so many Americans, like a gut punch.
The day after Kirk’s assassination, Trump appeared on the set of Fox & Friends and recounted how proud Barron was to introduce Charlie Kirk to his father .
“Barron came to me. And he said dad, ‘I’d like to meet somebody that you know.’ ‘Who?’ ‘Charlie Kirk,’ ” Trump told the hosts. “I said, ‘What?’ You know, I thought he was going to say, ‘I want to meet like King Charles’ or something.”
“I set up a lunch with him and Charlie. And he came back, he said, ‘That guy’s great, Dad. That guy’s great.’ You know, it was cute,” Trump continued. “He’s unbelievable. I don’t know what it was.”
Kirk’s assassination proved to be a tipping point on the right as the left-wing domestic terrorism problem facing America reached crisis proportions.
Charlie Kirk was the most effective conservative activist of his generation and was murdered in broad daylight because many conservatives now fear that a growing faction on the left wants to settle disputes with bullets and not ballots.
