Barbra Streisand is one of the Hollywood liberals suffering from a massive case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
The saga just took another twist.
And now Streisand fired off a lengthy statement that reveals exactly where Hollywood’s old guard still stands on Trump.
Streisand’s Website Post Targets Trump’s Handling of the Arts Center
Barbra Streisand declared on her personal website that President Donald Trump’s “unchecked ego” is destroying the Kennedy Center as its fate lingers in doubt over proposed renovations.
Streisand, an 84-year-old singer and actress who built her brand on decades of vocal opposition to Trump, used the post to recount the Kennedy Center’s origins as a memorial to President John F Kennedy following his 1963 assassination, and said she found Trump’s actions “galling” and “painful”.
She wasn’t done there. Streisand called out the president directly, writing that “you can easily imagine my indignation at seeing this revered institution become the subject of such a bitter struggle over one man’s name and unchecked ego.”
The dispute traces back to an attempt by Trump to place his name alongside Kennedy’s on the building’s entrance, a move that was met with widespread opposition from artists and much of the public.
A federal judge stepped in after that. A federal judge subsequently ruled that the Kennedy Center’s name could not be changed without an act of Congress, and Trump’s name was removed from the building’s facade.
Streisand didn’t let that resolution slide by quietly, either. She claimed that after his name was removed, a humiliated Trump ordered a large tarp placed over the facade, where it remains today.
The legal fight over the naming has apparently been simmering for well over a year. Trump’s name being included on the Kennedy Center has been an ongoing legal battle since last year, with a federal judge ruling in May of this year that the renaming must be approved by Congress.
Beyond the naming dispute, the board overseeing the Kennedy Center has now voted to shut the building down, with the closure attributed to a major renovation project rather than the ongoing legal fight over Trump’s name.
Why Hollywood’s Reaction Follows a Familiar Script
None of this should shock anyone who has watched Streisand operate over the last decade.
She has spent years positioning herself as one of the entertainment industry’s loudest anti-Trump voices, and this statement fits neatly into that pattern rather than breaking from it.
Hollywood celebrities routinely wade into political fights assuming their star power translates into moral authority on matters of government and policy. It usually doesn’t. Streisand lives in a world of gated estates and awards-show green rooms, not the world where working Americans pay their bills and watch their kids struggle in government schools that have been captured by woke ideology.
The entertainment industry has bled viewers and credibility for years by trading storytelling and craft for political lecturing, and late-night television offers the clearest example of an industry that traded audience trust for partisan messaging. Streisand’s statement, dressed up in the language of cultural reverence for JFK, reads as one more entry in that same playbook.
What’s actually happening at the Kennedy Center is a straightforward legal dispute over naming authority, something a federal judge already weighed in on by ruling that Congress, not the president, controls the institution’s name. That’s the kind of process outcome conservatives have long said should govern disputes like this one, and Trump’s team appears to have accepted the ruling by removing the name from the facade rather than fighting it further in court.
Streisand chose instead to frame the entire episode as evidence of personal vanity run amok, ignoring that the underlying legal question got resolved through the courts exactly as it should have.
She also used the moment to push Americans toward the ballot box in the coming midterms, turning a dispute over a building’s signage into a broader call for electoral action against the president.
That’s a familiar move for celebrities who can’t resist turning cultural disputes into campaign messaging, even when the underlying issue has already been settled by the judicial process they claim to respect.
Expect more of this as the renovation timeline plays out and the Kennedy Center’s board continues navigating both the legal aftermath and its own financial pressures. Hollywood’s habit of treating every Trump-related dispute as an opportunity for a press release isn’t going away anytime soon, and neither is the audience fatigue that has followed it.
