The shadow primary for the 2028 GOP Presidential nomination is heating up.
Battle lines are being drawn.
And a Fox News host pulled the knives out for JD Vance with this startling attack.
Fox News Keeps Trying to Distance Itself From Trump
Fox News took host Maria Bartiromo off the air after she expressed her concern to the White House that the network censored a story she worked on about President Trump’s bombshell that communist China helped rig the 2020 election.
Now, Fox & Friends co-host Lawrence Jones is attacking a new initiative by Trump and Vice President Vance to help married couples with the cost of childcare as “socialism.”
Jones’ broadside came after The New York Times reported that Trump and Vance support a draft rule allowing married couples to tap into the $12 billion Child Care Development Fund and receive up to $9,000 per year to offset the cost of child care.
Currently, this program is only available to daycare centers and single mothers.
This new rule doesn’t create a new welfare program or entitlement; it just redirects money Congress already voted to spend.
Jones still attacked the program as “socialism.”
“It’s definitely a political winner. I see what the president is doing, but I think it’s a terrible idea. It’s socialism. Just give me the money! Just give me more of my money. I don’t want any of these —” Jones started before co-host Rachel Campos Duffy cut him off.
“You want just a tax, like lower my taxes?” Campos-Duffy stated,
“Just lower my taxes,” Jones replied. “I don’t want all these programs. Again, I understand that this is a political winner in this new age of populism, um, but the government consistently choosing who they are gonna give these tax benefits to instead of just giving us the money — and if you want that money to pay for lower childcare, then you can use that money for that.”
Campos Duffy shot back that this program existed to incentivize single motherhood and Trump and Vance wanted to create a program that made it easier for married couples to afford having kids, a move she called a “powerful philosophical message.”
The 2028 Implications
“But you’re paying for that pot of money anyway,” Campos-Duffy replied. “The money set aside to pay for childcare is going, right now, to day care centers and to women who are unmarried, and it incentivizes people not to get married in order to get this money, and now, this says, ‘No, if you’re an at-home mom, you’re working too, and you’re gonna get a piece of that money, too.’ I think it really sends a powerful philosophical message.”
Campos Duffy later expanded on her defense of the proposal on social media writing, “First of all, I’m all for lowering taxes. Frankly, I prefer a 10% flat tax on everyone and every business – no loopholes. That will cut down a lot of government red tape and bureaucracy. Keep it simple.
But I’ve really changed the way I think about policy & economics as I’ve aged. The primary purpose of government, besides national defense, is to support what is best for children & families. If there’s a way to help or encourage mothers to stay home with their kids, especially in the first four years, I’m all for. You can call it socialism. I call it putting families first.”
JD Vance is likely to run for President in 2028 to continue President Trump’s populist agenda.
A key area of concern for populist conservatives is the declining birth rate in the West.
Many families worry about the cost of having kids, so women aren’t getting pregnant at rates to sustain the population.
Vance and Trump want to change that.
But the attacks from Lawrence Jones and other voices on the right who whined about this being “socialism” are really trying to lay the groundwork for a major fight in 2028 to make sure that the post-Trump right looks exactly like the pre-Trump right by rejecting Trump’s Vice President and picking a more establishment-friendly standard bearer.
