Fox News Channel is normally a fair outlet that covers President Trump.
But some on-air talent are raising questions.
And now a Fox News star begged Trump to tell the American people one tough truth.
The War with Iran Escalates
Iran staged a deadly attack, firing missiles at a U.S. base in Jordan, killing two soldiers and wounding more than a dozen.
This attack shattered the ceasefire Trump negotiated through a memorandum of understanding and meant the war was back on, meaning gas prices were likely to rise again as Iran moved to shut down the Strait of Hormuz.
On Fox News’s The Big Weekend Show, co-host Lisa Boothe said Trump needed to give a speech on the war to outline to the American people why they were paying a price in blood and treasure for the war to continue.
“So now, 16 service members have been killed,” said contributor Lisa Boothe on Saturday’s show. “There’s a price to this war, clearly, both in the loss of blood and our men and women, and also financially, as well. Long story short…I do think it’s beneficial for the president to come out and say, ‘Hey, look, this is where we are right now, these are the objectives, and this is how we’re gonna get there,’ because a lot of this is undefined, and there’s sure is a heck of a lot of questions.”
Co-host Ben Domenech is one of the biggest supporters of the war on Fox, but even he admitted that at the outset of the war, the administration “put in terms” that ended up being “far too optimistic,” such as telling Americans the war would be over quickly and take four weeks at most.
Tomi Lahren Asks for Clarity
Co-host Tomi Lahren noted that when the war began, its supporters sold it as a chance for the Iranian people to rise up and overthrow the Iranian regime.
“I remember on the outside of this, too, we had a lot of folks who are Persian-Americans, or any Americans, and they were hopeful of what this could be. And to your point, Ben, perhaps there was this overly optimistic view that we could have the Persia of once was, and perhaps that could return, and democracy could return because there were enough people that wanted to change the government,” Lahren stated.
That never happened.
Now Lahren argued it was incumbent on Trump to give “clarity” to the American people about what victory looks like and pull back on ambitions of regime change for a more modest objective.
“And now there very well may be, but they have rocks. So, unless you’re going to arm those people, the chances that they’re going to take back their government are slim to none. So, we don’t know who’s in control. It feels like the IRGC is in control. Maybe we’re negotiating with people who are not even calling the shots, and don’t have their finger on the trigger. So, I think, to Ben’s point, and to all of our points here to summing this up — some clarity with the American people is needed right now. Because we need to know what victory looks like, and you know what? I think that there might be a little bit of humble pie, of, “This might not be this revolutionary change; it might just be we set them back enough that we’re safe for now.” And then to your point, we might have to do this again, but being entangled for 20 years consistently, I don’t think that’s going to fly with anybody,” Lahren added.
Polls show the Iran War is the most unpopular war in American history.
Lahren and others maintain that this is because the administration offered a shifting set of objectives and timelines for how they would be achieved.
The administration also never deployed its best weapon – Trump himself – to give a major speech outlining why the war was necessary and what America stands to gain.
