Sean Hannity talks for a living.
It’s not often he’s at a loss for words.
And now Sean Hannity faced one challenge that left him speechless.
A War of Words Between Trump and Stephen A. Smith
Sean Hannity found himself in the middle of a war of words between ESPN host Stephen A. Smith and President Trump.
Trump took exception with Smith, who, like Trump, is a massive New York Knicks fan, saying Trump shouldn’t attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, the first NBA finals game in New York since 1999.
Smith argued that Trump’s presence created a security hassle that inconvenienced fans.
When the Knicks lost to the San Antonio Spurs for their first loss in 13 playoff games, Smith fumed that Trump’s presence wrecked the Knicks’ mojo.
Trump fired back in a Truth Social post, calling Smith “low IQ” and mocking Smith’s reported Presidential aspirations, saying that Smith would get destroyed in a debate.
“Stephen A. Smith is an arrogant fool, a low-IQ individual. In other words, he’s “dumb as a rock,” and totally unqualified to ever think of running for high political office, or even low political office, for that matter! He’d get annihilated in a debate by the most incompetent of politicians. Joe Biden’s now “fabled” performance would look great by comparison to anything that this loudmouth huckster has to offer, which isn’t much! Within a few weeks, they’d laugh him out of politics!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Smith responded on his show, saying that he likes Trump personally and that Trump has always treated him well.
“I will not disrespect this man on a personal level. And I have to say this before I go where I’m going. The president said I was a nice guy. I got to tell you something. He’s always been nice to me. The first insult or cruel thing he said about me was in the quote on his post on his Truth Social platform,” Smith declared. “Of all the years that I’ve known Donald Trump, that’s the first mean-spirited thing he’s ever done to me personally.”
But then Smith challenged Trump to name the time and place for a debate.
“Name the time and place, and I’ll show up. Because you see, Mr. President, I don’t have a record when it comes to issues. You do. I must ask you, sir, is inflation heating up again? I think it is. Didn’t you promise us it wouldn’t? Are gas prices painfully high? I think it is. Didn’t you say you didn’t care? The war in Iran is dragging on over 100 days. Didn’t you say we weren’t in a war before you said we weren’t in a war? Before you said it would be over, before we realized it’s not over. Isn’t the Straight of Hormuz still closed? Aren’t drones still being blown out of the sky because Iran are sending drones to ships to try to go through? Didn’t that stuff happen? How about Russia and Ukraine? Didn’t you say you would end that in a day? Isn’t that still going on?” Smith exclaimed.
Smith Challenges Hannity
Smith appeared on Sean Hannity’s show following the Knicks dramatic 107-106 Game 4 win, where the Knicks staged the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history. Smith agreed with Hannity that the Knicks got their mojo back and that Trump’s attendance at Game 3 didn’t curse the team.
But Smith joked that he was in Hannity’s realm, talking politics, but when Hannity ventured into sports, he was in Smith’s world.
“They got their mojo back, OK?” Smith exclaimed. “But before the game, I said that and I stood by it. He had no business at that game. See, people– this is a hard conversation to your listeners out there because, like you tell me to stay in my lane when it comes to politics, you don’t know sports! You don’t understand. First of all, let me be very, very clear.”
Hannity then claimed to be a big sports fan and rattled off Knicks greats, leading Smith to rib him about being a faker.
“Oh, please!” Smith shot back. “You Googled something over the night? Stop it! Stop it! Please!”
