Laura Ingraham is a fixture in the Fox News Channel primetime lineup.
The audience wasn’t prepared for what Ingraham was about to say.
And Laura Ingraham asked one question that left Fox News viewers holding their breath.
Laura Ingraham is a strong supporter of President Trump.
Ingraham backed Trump because of his opposition to so-called “free trade” deals and open borders.
But Ingraham also supported Trump because Trump opposed the endless nation-building wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and promised a more restrained foreign policy.
Like many Trump supporters, Ingraham gave the President the benefit of the doubt when Trump decided to go to war with Iran.
Trump supporters like Ingraham trusted that Trump would wrap the war up quickly and with victory.
As the war entered its fifth week, Ingraham asked some questions.
Gas prices surged to over $4 a gallon after Iran shut down oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian regime didn’t fall.
Trump threatened that unless Iran opened the Strait of Hormuz by April 6, America’s military would obliterate Iran’s energy infrastructure.
Ingraham wondered about the wisdom of escalation.
“President Trump gave Iran until April 6th, right, to strike a deal. And now we are nearing a defining moment for this conflict and perhaps for his presidency,” Ingraham said on her show.
“The president insists that Iran wants to come to the table, telling The New York Post today he’s in talks with the leader of the parliament. But how much power does Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf actually have? The New York Times is reporting that the regime is having some trouble coordinating after so many people were killed,” Ingraham added.
Ingraham went on to explain that it was likely impossible to hammer out a deal with Iran because its leaders were in hiding after the U.S. and Israel killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the first day of the war.
“They’re scared to meet in person these individuals, or to have their calls apparently hacked. With different leaders in place, Iranian negotiators may have little knowledge about what their government is willing to concede, or even whom precisely to ask. So if we cannot come to some type of peace deal with people who can’t be trusted, then what?” Ingraham asked.
Ingraham said that Trump now faced a choice over escalation that would extend the war.
“Well, looks like the U.S. is going to escalate. President Trump is already warning of widespread further damage, threatening to hit electric-generating plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island, as he’s reportedly considering sending ground troops in to secure the uranium,” Ingraham added.
“Now, knowing what little time we have and how quickly this can spiral out of control, we still have a lot of questions,” Ingraham continued.
Ingraham wondered if war supporters like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Senator Lindsey Graham, and talk show host Mark Levin made it clear to President Trump the risks of going to war with Iran entailed when they sold him on the endeavor, or if they pitched the war to Trump by misleading him about how quickly he could end it.
“For instance, was the president fully briefed about the risks of all of this from the beginning? And was he then able to take it all in and understand the complexity of this, how complex it could actually get, and further possibilities of casualties or other damage, the difficulty of dealing with these people? Or was he told this would be relatively quick in and out?” Ingraham asked.
