The 2026 midterm election is in the homestretch.
Polls are pouring in, and both parties are pondering hard choices as the electoral map comes into focus.
And Megyn Kelly gasped upon learning this really bad news.
Mark Halperin’s Warning
Journalist Mark Halperin set off a political earthquake with a viral social media post warning that Republican strategists are panicked over internal polls showing the bottom falling out.
Halperin wrote that, based on internal campaign polling and reporting, what “I see instead is the possibilities that the wheels are coming off for a political figure who is swimming against the tide of a Blue tsunami as big as Connecticut, not because Ken Martin is suddenly a genius, but because an unpopular war and high consumer prices is no way to win a midterm election.”
Halperin joined Megyn Kelly to elaborate on his reporting and told Kelly that everyone working in GOP politics understands that the state of play currently looks grim.
“Anyone who has got any sources in Republican politics knows that this is the state of play right now,” Halperin went on to say.
Halperin added that “45” Republican strategists reached out and told Halperin that either he was accurate in his reporting he was underselling how quickly the political environment deteriorated.
Kelly couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
“Oh my lord,” Kelly exclaimed. “Give it to us straight. How bad is it?”
Republicans Still Have the Time and the Means to Turn it Around
Halperin did caution that all wasn’t lost because there was still a month to go and the GOP unleashed its $1 billion financial advantage to pummel socialist Democrat candidates with negative ads.
But Halperin said Republicans needed better messaging from the White House and for Trump to stop praising AI and focusing on the Iran War and sharpening the attacks on Democrats over the consequences of handing socialists power.
Absent anything changing, Halperin did say he thought Democrats would net 25 seats in the House.
“The president could start driving messages that are helpful, as opposed to unhelpful messages like, ‘I love data centers,’ and ‘I love AI.’ If that happens, maybe things will change, but right now I’d say Democrats will pick up at least 25 House seats, net, and at least six Senate seats, net,” Halperin stated.
“Oh good, God,” Kelly gasped.
“Could be bigger,” Halperin replied.
Kelly didn’t like hearing that and told Halperin that predicting a Democrat wave would get him scolded by Chris LaCivita, Trump’s top political lieutenant.
“That will get you called full of sh*t every time by Chris LaCivita,” Kelly said, adding that “Because those are awful numbers, and now you’re talking about that’s more than a Blue wave. That’s a tidal wave.”
