The numbers are in, and they tell a story Silicon Valley does not want Americans to read before they vote.
Apple News, Google News, Microsoft’s MSN, and Yahoo News have been quietly tilting the information landscape all year long.
And a bombshell report just pulled back the curtain on how four of the biggest news gatekeepers in the country are doing it.
The Numbers That Should Make Every Voter’s Blood Boil
The Media Research Center’s Digital News Tracker monitored the top 20 morning stories on Apple News, Google News, Microsoft’s MSN, and Yahoo News from November 1, 2025 through September 6, 2026 — the full run-up to the 2026 midterm elections.
What researchers found was not subtle.
Out of 21,096 total articles from AllSides-rated outlets in their morning feeds, the four platforms pushed 14,348 stories — 68% — from left-leaning outlets. Right-leaning outlets got 1,153 articles. That is 5%.
Sixty-eight to five. That is not a tilt. That is a wall.
And the reach of these platforms makes the numbers impossible to dismiss. All four news aggregators collectively pull in over 550 million monthly views. Yahoo leads with just over 200 million. Microsoft’s MSN pulls about 150 million. Three of the four come preloaded on the devices Americans already own — Apple News on iPhones, Google News on Android phones, and Microsoft’s MSN on computers. Nobody had to seek these apps out. They were already there, already feeding a lopsided diet of news to millions of voters who may never realize it is happening.
According to a Pew Research Center survey cited by the MRC, 86% of US adults say they get their news from a digital source at least sometimes. The same Pew data found that a majority of US adults — 57% — have expressed low confidence in journalists to act in the best interest of the public. The platforms feeding those Americans their headlines are running 68% left-leaning content. The two facts sit together in a way that ought to make anyone paying attention uncomfortable.
Platform by Platform: Apple Is the Worst, but None Are Clean
Apple News earned the title of most biased news aggregator against the right, promoting just 65 stories (1%) from right-leaning outlets out of 5,810 total articles tracked. It pushed 4,133 articles from left-leaning outlets — a 71% share.
But the raw percentages do not capture the full picture of what Apple News actually did. The platform went 100 straight days — from November 6, 2025 through February 13, 2026 — without featuring a single story from a right-leaning outlet in its morning editions. During that same stretch, it ran 1,379 stories from left-leaning outlets. One thousand three hundred seventy-nine to zero.
The streak only ended after Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson wrote a warning letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, citing MRC’s research and putting Apple on notice that suppressing news based on political viewpoint may violate the FTC Act. And even then, the first right-leaning story Apple News featured was a Fox News Digital obituary for actor James Van Der Beek — as apolitical a piece of content as the platform could possibly have chosen.
Apple News editors hand-select stories, unlike the algorithm-driven competitors. That matters. There is no machine to blame.
Google News was not far behind Apple in its hostility to right-leaning content. It promoted just 184 articles (3%) from right-leaning media while pushing 3,665 articles (68%) from leftist outlets.
Yahoo News promoted the highest percentage of leftist-sourced stories of any platform, running 4,090 stories (77%) from left-leaning outlets out of 5,304 total. Yahoo has also made a habit of featuring some of the most radical outlets available — Salon, The New Republic, The Daily Beast — outlets that do not even pretend to be neutral.
Microsoft’s MSN was the least biased of the four, which is a bit like being the least cold of four ice baths. MSN promoted 2,460 articles (53%) from leftist sources out of 4,614 total. But it also promoted the largest share of right-leaning content of any platform — 574 stories, or 12% — and MRC researchers found that MSN’s “recommended publishers” list included 15 leftist outlets against just two right-leaning ones: Fox News and the Washington Examiner.
When MSN did feature right-leaning content, it leaned heavily on Fox News and Fox Business stories about sports, local crime, and human-interest topics. Not politics. The political coverage stayed left.
What the Right Actually Got — and What That Means Going Into November
Of the 1,153 right-leaning articles that made it through across all four platforms, the majority came from Fox News (970 stories) or Fox Business (62). UK-based The Telegraph got picked up 61 times. The New York Post — one of the top 50 most-visited news sites in the country according to Press Gazette — was featured just 31 times across all four platforms over nearly a full year of monitoring.
Thirty-one stories. For one of the most-read newspapers in America. That is not an accident. That is a decision.
Big Tech spent the period after President Trump’s 2024 victory projecting a friendlier posture — public statements, policy announcements, and carefully staged goodwill gestures. But the MRC data covers the whole period from November 2025 through early September 2026, and what it shows is that the friendlier posture was a performance. Behind it, the same algorithmic and editorial choices that have defined these platforms for years kept right-leaning content buried.
This is the same Big Tech that censored conservatives over COVID policy. The same companies that suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story in the weeks before the 2020 election — a story that a large number of Americans believe affected the outcome of that race. The same platforms that throttled and demonetized voices that raised questions about lockdowns, mandates, and the conduct of that election.
And now those same companies control the morning news feed for hundreds of millions of Americans in the weeks before the 2026 midterms.
The “misinformation” justification for content moderation has always been a pretext. What the MRC data makes plain is that it was never about stopping false information — it was about deciding which side of every political argument gets amplified and which side gets buried. Sixty-eight percent to five percent is not neutral curation. It is a thumb on the scale, and it has been there all year.
The question worth asking now is what voters are going to do with that knowledge before November arrives.
