Democrats were salivating over their midterm election polling.
Party leaders believed they stood on the doorstep of winning control of Congress,
But Trump’s MAGA machine is about to unleash one onslaught that Democrats fear the most.
Trump Joins the Midterm Fight
As summer comes to a close, President Trump is gearing up to play a major role in the 2026 midterm election.
Up to this point, Trump held few rallies and his MAGA Inc. Super PAC hadn’t yet spent from its $400 million war chest.
That’s all about to change.
Fox News Channel White House correspondent Pete Doocy revealed that after Labor Day passed and the traditional campaign kickoff began, Trump planned to ramp up his political activity by holding as many as one rally a day until the November 3 election, an unprecedented schedule for an incumbent President.
“Yeah, it’s a big advantage and a big part of President Trump’s pitch to Republicans right now is just to pretend like he is on the ballot, and we are hearing some whispers of a ton of Trump travel in October, possibly as much as a Trump rally a day in the most competitive states and districts. And that is something that you don’t typically see from a president in a set of midterms that are historically very hard for the president’s party,” Doocy told host Brian Kilmeade.
Trump previously told voters to pretend like he was on the ballot, since Republicans lost elections in 2018, 2023, and 2025 when Trump’s name didn’t appear on the ballot to juice turnout.
What’s Really At Stake
Doocy explained that Trump actually described the reality of the midterm election as if Trump’s name physically isn’t on the ballot; the fate of his Presidency is that if Democrats win control of the House and Senate, they will block funding for Trump’s agenda, stop him from confirming nominees – including to the Supreme Court – and launch endless investigations and potential new impeachments,
“But he is on the ballot in that if Democrats win control of the House or the Senate, it’s just going to be constant investigations. They’re going to be trying to use Congress and all of the power over there to unwind everything that they have done for the last two years and help whoever their pick is for 2028. And so Donald Trump, his name might not be right there, but he is on the ballot at pretty much every line,” Doocy added.
Fellow Fox News contributor Ben Domenech agreed when host Brett Bair asked about polling data showing Democrats leading in enough races to win control of the Senate.
Domenech explained this was partly due to Trump not hitting the campaign trail until after Labor Day to ensure maximum effect and predicted that Trump’s ramped-up rally schedule would lead to increased Republican turnout in November, giving the party a fighting chance to maintain their majorities.
“The Republican Party understands that it needs a reset. They’re on their back foot because of the history involved when it comes to midterm elections, but they also are on their back foot because, quite frankly, their best campaigner, Donald Trump, is not the person who is leading the charge to this point. He said he’s going to start spending money; he’s going to start campaigning across the country. I think that makes a big difference in terms of boosting Republican turnout. They need to have a story to tell going into this run toward the last days of this election,” Domenech stated.
