Hakeem Jeffries is angling to become the next Speaker of the House.
But Jeffries made that task much more difficult.
And Hakeem Jeffries just waved the white flag in one startling act of surrender.
Jeffries Rolls Over for Democrat Socialists
2026 should be a banner year for Democrats.
Opposition parties typically score big when it’s the sixth year of a two-term Presidency.
In 2006, Democrats swept both Houses of Congress in President George W. Bush’s sixth year in office.
2014 saw the GOP win 9 Senate seats and expand its House majority during Barack Obama’s sixth-year midterms.
But 2026 could buck the trend.
That’s because the Democrat Socialists of America are taking over the left by winning primary after primary and saddling the party with candidates running on a toxic platform of abolishing the Supreme Court, defunding the police, opening the border, and having the government seize private businesses.
NBC’s Kristin Welker asked him if there was room for Democrat Socialists inside the party’s coalition.
Jeffries took the opportunity to disavow the Democrat Socialists’ entire platform.
“What I can say is I do not support defunding the police, I do not support open borders, I do not support abolishing the Senate. We’re focused on actually solving the problems hard-working American taxpayers want us to solve, which is to lower the high cost of living in a situation where life is far too expensive in this country. That’s the Democratic agenda,” Jeffries began.
Welker asked a second time, and Jeffries admitted that Democrats were going to win primaries under the Democratic banner and that they were members of the party in good standing.
“Well, listen, I don’t support the DSA agenda as has been articulated by the DSA itself. Now, you’re going to have individual members who have been elected in Democratic primaries and if they are elected in the general in November, will be part of the House Democratic Caucus. It’s going to be a broad caucus. There will be progressives. There will be New Dems. There will be Blue Dogs,” Jeffries added.
Jeffries said he was “excited” about Democrat Socialists joining the effort to win back the House.
“What I’m excited about are the candidates who are running to flip seats in November, to deliver us a majority that pushes back against Donald Trump’s extremism and moves the country in the right direction. That means us, House Democrats, lowering the high cost of living in areas like groceries, and gas, and, of course, housing and fighting to make health care affordable for every single American while, at the same period of time, pushing back against the corruption that has been unleashed on the American people and holding the crooks accountable beginning on day one in January of next year,” Jeffries concluded.
Democrat Socialists are Dragging the Party Down
Republicans are competitive in the 2026 election because Democrats are historically unpopular.
A July Wall Street Journal poll found that just eight percent of Americans had a very favorable view of the Democrat Party.
That’s because socialists like Zohran Mamdani, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Bernie Sanders now define the party to many voters.
If Republicans defy history in November, Hakeem Jeffries rolling over for Democrat Socialists instead of fighting them off in primaries will be to blame.
