But that always isn’t the case.
And Fox News made one big change that hit Trump like a gut punch.
Fox Shifts Texas Senate Race
Democrats need to flip four Republican seats to win control of the United States Senate.
Texas sits at the top of the target list.
Every election cycle, the media claims this is the year that “blue Texas” becomes a reality and Democrats end the streak of losing Senate races dating back to 1988.
And every year, Democrats fall short.
But this year polls show Democrat James Talarico holding a narrow lead over Republican State Attorney General Ken Paxton in the race to succeed ousted RINO Senator John Cornyn.
Fox News fed the narrative that Democrats are favored to win this race by shifting its rating from “lean Republican” to “toss-up.”
In a piece explaining it analysis, Fox News’s Remy Numa blamed Paxton’s deficit on his so-called “scandals,” echoing the argument Cornyn made against Paxton in the primary.
“That has benefited Talarico, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Texas, who has enjoyed some robust polling results this summer. He’s averaging 48% in three recent polls, hitting 51% in Fox’s survey, while his opponent, Ken Paxton, averages 46%.
Paxton’s history of legal and personal issues is likely playing a role in that latter figure, and while Talarico must defend a history of “woke” comments, voters say they’re less worried about those. They could make the difference in an election year that’s already favorable to Democrats. Texas is also a toss-up,” Numa wrote.
The GOP Establishment Abandons Paxton
Paxton is trailing due to sabotage by the GOP establishment.
In an interview with Breitbart, Paxton explained that Talarico emerged from his primary flush with cash, and his accounts were empty due to the costly race to defeat Cornyn, the pro-amnesty, pro-gun-control RINO incumbent.
“I started June 1 with basically $0,” Paxton said, adding that Talarico “had just raised 30 million,” which the attorney general said came largely from donors in California and New York. According to Paxton, Talarico “had the ability to raise money for three months that I didn’t have.”
The Republican National Committee and Republican National Senatorial Committee haven’t spent a dime in Texas to assist Paxton, so Talarico’s money advantage is winning out.
Cornyn, one of the party’s most prolific fundraisers, is refusing to lift a finger to help Paxton raise money, and one of Cornyn’s top aides went to work for Talarico’s campaign.
Trump endorsed Paxton in the primary, and he is now flexing his financial muscle to help Paxton by headlining a Republican National Committee fundraiser in Houston.
“The upcoming RNC fundraiser is set for August 27 in Houston, Texas, where host committee tickets are selling for $443,000 per couple and photo opportunities with the president are going for $88,600 per couple,” the Houston Chronicle reports.
Trump will also unleash his $400 million MAGA Inc. Super PAC war chest in this race as well.
“Per source familiar, Trump’s visit is focused on ensuring Paxton has the funds he needs to win the midterms, after his campaign spent the bulk of their war chest against [Sen. John] Cornyn during the runoff,” MS NOW’s Emily Hung posted to X.
“Trump and his PACs are behind Paxton all the way,” Hung added.
Trump is picking up the slack whereas the GOP establishment is perfectly happy to sit on its hands and hope a pro-Trump conservative loses.
