Megyn Kelly Mocks Haley Stevens as the New Jasmine Crockett
One of the key Senate races this November is the contest to replace retiring Democrat Gary Peters.
If Republican Mike Rogers wins, it becomes nearly impossible for Democrats to win a Senate majority.
But the Democrats are tearing themselves to pieces in a primary where the establishment rallied around Congresswoman Haley Stevens to stop socialist Abdul El-Sayed.
Polls show El-Sayed with a strong chance to win despite Chuck Schumer, Peters, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer endorsing Stevens and AIPAC spending $50 million on her behalf.
Part of Stevens’ challenge is her off-putting persona, exemplified in a clip Kelly played on her podcast where Stevens adopted a fake accent, dropping her ‘g’s’ to sound like she was working class.
“I am gonna be workin’ on our behalf, I am gonna be tellin’ the stories on our behalf,” Stevens exclaimed. “And you better believe I’m gonna be doin’ it with a little bit of joy, a little bit of enthusiasm, a little bit of energy, and a little bit of ‘stick it to ’em!’ Because that’s the Michigan way!”
“I sound like the people who I’m trying to fight for,” Stevens added.
Kelly ridiculed Stevens playing the same act as Jasmine Crockett, who would speak in a fake urban accent once she began running for Congress in a majority black district.
“This woman, she’s not playing it straight. We’ll show you the proof. Um, this is not how she’s always talked. She’s Jasmine Crockett,” Kelly stated.
“That’s what we’re realizing. This is a new Jasmine Crockett. Like, but I don’t get it, because do Michiganders need you to ‘speak like this in order to vote for ya, with the back in your throat, have your hard A’s,” Kelly added.
Kelly mocked Stevens as an obvious fraud because in all her years covering politics, she never heard another Michigan politician speak like that.
“No, I don’t think so. I don’t think they require that, because that’s not how any other Michigan politician talks,” Kelly added.
Kelly’s guest Emily Jashinsky took the chance to have some fun at Kelly’s expense.
“That was such an offensive Midwestern accent from you, Megan. I can’t even begin,” Jashinsky replied.
“Well, I am imitating this woman, not Midwesterners. That’s the problem for her,” Kelly answered.
“She’s the offensive one,” Jashinsky agreed.
What This Race is About
Schumer and his fellow establishment Democrats think El-Sayed, who supported defunding the police and claimed ICE “terrorized” people, is unelectable.
But by supporting a flawed candidate like Stevens, who has to fake it until she makes it, Kelly and Jashinsky argued Schumer backed an equally unelectable choice.
She’s been in politics for a long time. It is just an absolutely ridiculous act that, if she beats Abdul El-Sayed, will bite her in the *ss in this crucial Michigan Senate race for Democrats if she’s nominated. Because that juxtaposition you just played is going to be an ad for Republicans if she wins. I’m calling it now,” Jashinsky remarked.
“They’re going to say something like Haley Stevens sounds different, right? It’ll be on a silver platter for them,” Jashinsky went on to say.
Kelly again blasted Stevens as a “fake” and a “phony” before quipping that Stevens sounded like a character straight out of the classic 1990s film Fargo.
“She’s a fraud. She’s a fake. She’s a phony,” Kelly went on to say. “But I don’t find that attractive at all. And nor do most Michiganers who don’t sound like that. I don’t know who she’s trying to sound like. She’s giving off a little Fargo vibe, you know.”
