The polling data for the midterm election keeps pouring in.
Election Day will arrive quicker than anyone realizes.
And now a shocking Fox News poll reported one number Trump hated to hear.
Fox News Poll is a Flashing Red Light for the GOP
Fox News’s latest 2026 poll showed Democrats holding an 8-point lead on the generic ballot question of which party Americans want to see in control of Congress.
Democrats winning by 8 points in November would constitute a landslide that would not only hand them control over the House of Representatives, but a majority in the U.S. Senate as well.
Unified Democrat control of Congress means a complete blockade on Trump’s agenda and nominees as well as endless impeachment witch hunts.
As is always the case, the economy is the number one issue to voters, and Fox News found that just 24 percent of Americans rate the economy as good or excellent and 76 percent say it’s fair or poor.
“You look at the condition of the economy,” Special Report host Brett Baier said of the poll’s results. “And this is the one, for midterms, we look at closely. And that is ‘excellent or good,’ 24%; only ‘fair or poor,’ 76%. And that has got to have Republicans, Senate and House, concerned.”
Senior political analyst Britt Hume concurred and said there was little good news in this survey.
“Absolutely, Bret,” Hume stated. “And the truth is, there’s not much good news for Republicans in this whole poll we did. Underwater on the economy, as you showed, underwater on affordability. Those two issues are front and center for sure.”
Americans’ perceptions of the economy are tied to gas prices that rose to over $4 a gallon as the war with Iran restarted.
Hume previously said on Fox that for Republicans to have any hope in November, Trump needed to end the war as soon as possible.
“I think the president’s in kind of a tough spot here in that sense,” Hume declared. “And he promised to keep us out of endless wars or unsatisfactory wars, and now he’s in one, and it’s not at all clear how it’s gonna end. So, he’s vulnerable on this point, and in political terms, he does need to get this over with. But what he may need his time, and he doesn’t have a lot of time.”
Trump understands this, which is why he called off a major escalation of the war to instead give negotiations more time.
The One Piece of Good News in the Poll
Hume did point out that the poll contained one silver lining for the GOP.
And that was the fact that 68% of Democrats and 66% of MAGA Republicans reported they were enthusiastic to vote in November.
Hume explained that this number is critical since midterm elections are base turnout contests.
“And the other thing is, of course, on the question of intensity and voter sentiment,” Hume added. “It appears Republicans are down, but if you add the people who are very likely or extremely likely to vote, the difference for Democrats is very slight. So, Republicans can take some faith or and some hope from that. With an unpopular incumbent in this particular presidency in its first midterm, the way of history is pretty strong, and the party in power in the White House has historically, with very few exceptions, done very poorly in a midterm like this one.”
