Don Lemon just reminded everyone why CNN showed him the door.
The former anchor is now floating a 2028 presidential run, and he apparently decided the best way to launch a political career is to compare tens of millions of ordinary Americans to Nazis.
The White House had a few words for him, and they weren’t kind.
What Lemon Actually Said on the Podcast
Lemon made the MAGA-Nazi comparison during an interview on the *Can’t Be Censored* podcast in July.
“MAGA is the closest thing to the modern version of the Nazi Party,” Lemon said. “This is America’s version. It’s the closest thing, without the Holocaust and all that stuff.”
Read that again. He stripped out the single defining horror of the Nazi regime, the systematic murder of six million Jews and millions of others, and then kept the label anyway. That’s not a caveat. That’s the whole comparison collapsing under its own weight.
Lemon made the comparison after the hosts asked him to define MAGA and consider what could happen to the Republican Party after Trump leaves the political stage.
“No matter how many facts and how much information you give them about this presidency, about the policies, they don’t change their minds because they’re really not voting for the price of eggs,” Lemon said. “They’re voting for White supremacy. They’re voting for power.”
So in Lemon’s telling, the millions of Americans who voted for lower prices, border security, and a government that stays out of their lives aren’t actually worried about their grocery bills. They’re secret white supremacists. All of them. Including, apparently, the Black, Hispanic, and Asian voters who broke for Donald Trump in 2024 in numbers that stunned the political class.
Trump’s 2024 voters were more racially and ethnically diverse than in either of his previous campaigns. He received 48% of the Hispanic vote and 15% of the Black vote.
Somebody might want to share that data with Don Lemon before he starts his campaign.
The White House Didn’t Let It Slide
White House spokesman Davis Ingle fired back, saying, “Don Lemon is a low-ratings loser that no one takes seriously. He should immediately seek psychiatric help to treat his severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Blunt. But the underlying point holds up. Lemon hasn’t anchored a major television broadcast in years. He departed CNN in April 2023 and has since operated largely on the fringes of the media landscape, appearing on podcasts and social media rather than any major television platform.
And now he wants to run the country.
Appearing on the *Can’t Be Censored* podcast, Lemon confirmed that a 2028 White House campaign is something he is now weighing. When one host pressed him on whether he truly meant it, he did not hesitate. “No, I’m being totally serious,” he replied, adding, “I actually think I would be a really good president of the United States.”
“I’ve stuck my toe into it, if you want to put it that way, or I’ve dabbled, I’ve talked to people about it, people who have been in politics before, what would it take? When would I have to get in to do it? And I’d have to be really serious about it,” he said.
There’s something almost poignant about a man who lost his cable news job, got his X partnership pulled after an awkward interview with Elon Musk, and is currently facing federal charges deciding this is the moment to announce a presidential run. Almost.
The Federal Charges Nobody Is Talking About Enough
Here’s the part of the Don Lemon story that his supporters prefer to skip over.
Lemon and eight others have been charged in connection with an incident in which anti-ICE protesters disrupted a service at a Minnesota church, according to a federal indictment.
Lemon and others are charged with conspiracy against rights of religious freedom and an attempt to injure while exercising religious freedom in the two-count indictment.
The indictment alleges that the nine defendants “oppressed, threatened, and intimidated the Church’s congregants and pastors” by occupying space in the main aisle and rows of chairs near the front of the church and engaged in “menacing and threatening behavior.” It further alleges that Lemon “physically obstructed” congregants as they tried to leave the church.
He has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and religious-freedom-related charges, insisting he was acting as an independent journalist rather than a participant in the demonstration.
But the indictment tells a different story. The indictment, which includes multiple references to Lemon’s video of the incident, alleges that the journalist told viewers that the whole point was to disrupt operations.
So the man who wants to lecture the country about fascism allegedly walked into a Christian church service and helped shut it down. Congregants couldn’t get to their children in the church’s childcare. That’s the record he’s running on.
Lemon is not the first member of the left-wing media class to reach for the Nazi comparison when describing Trump supporters. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) compared Trump’s crackdown on illegal aliens to Adolf Hitler rounding up Jews and other minorities for death camps. The rhetoric keeps escalating, and the people deploying it keep wondering why nobody outside their circle takes them seriously anymore.
The voters who sent Donald Trump back to the White House in 2024 weren’t voting for hatred. They were voting for a secure border, a government that doesn’t spend money it doesn’t have, and a President who doesn’t treat them like the enemy. Calling that Nazism doesn’t make it true. It just reveals how completely disconnected Lemon and his allies are from the country they claim to want to lead.
And now the man making that comparison wants to be President. The Democrat Party’s 2028 bench is apparently even thinner than it looks.
